Roasting in the Snappy King

The Hotplate should be removed for roasting and the burner located in the back position. Once the lid is closed the heat rolls around the circular body.
Roasting Whole Fish: Place the fish on a layer of foil, add seasonings or flavourings. Enclose in the foil. Cooking time will vary, but for a 8-9kg fish allow 1 – 1.5 hours.

Roasting Beef or Lamb: Begin with the temperature on high for around 15-30 minutes to seal in the flavor, then turn down to low and continue cooking. Place roast in the middle of the oven to avoid burning.

The roast can be wrapped in foil to seal in the moisture, but remove for the last hour or so for the meat to brown. Allow 2.5 hours cooking time for a 2.5kg roast of Beef or Lamb. Obviously this is only a guide, and cooking times will vary with the weight of the meat.

Roast Chickens – Place the seasoned chicken on the rack, and close the lid.
For an average size chicken (size 14) allow 1.5 – 2 hours cooking time. Don’t forget to turn it down after the first 20-30 minutes or the chicken may burn.

Roast Turkeys – Similar preparation to Chicken, although wrapping in foil will keep the moisture in, as Turkeys tend to dry out easily. An average size turkey of 5-6kg will take around 3-3.5 hours cooking time.

Roast Vegetables – Vegetables can be placed in baking dishes, or directly on the roasting rack. Using the Double-Up Rack will assist in cooking vegetables at the same time as the meat is cooking. Avoid placing food directly over the burner to ensure food does not burn.

The temperature on the Double-Up Rack will be higher than the normal roasting rack because it is higher in the oven, so regularly check food on this rack.

Using the Snappy King as an Oven (use only the rack – not the Hotplate)

The Snappy King is capable of cooking practically anything your conventional oven can cook. For example, why not try a batch of scones, Apricot Pie, a Fruit Cake, or a steamed pudding.

Potato Bake or cauliflower bake, or any similar vegetable dish can be cooked or simply reheated in the Snappy King, and it browns the top beautifully.

Wrap garlic bread in foil, and put it in the Snappy King five minutes before you need it, or a bit longer if you like it crunchy on top.

The Snappy King is handy for quick snacks such as:
Nachos – Place corn chips in an oven proof dish, top with grated cheese and place in Snappy King for 10 minutes or until brown. Top with salsa, and serve with sour
cream and mashed avocado – simple – and very tasty.

Pizza – Cooks Pizza to perfection – See Recipe section for great pizza ideas.

Snappy King as a BBQ

  • Remove the Roasting rack and Double-Up Rack.
  • Move the burner from the back position and insert it through the hole further to the front and secure it with the barrel bolt on the left hand side.
  • Lower the Hotplate into the Snappy King.
  • Heat the Hotplate for a few minutes before food is placed on it, but do not leave on for any longer than 5 to 10 minutes without food, as this may cause the plate to buckle.
  • Add oil to the hotplate before cooking if required, and barbecue as you would on any other barbecue.
  • The lid should stay open when the Snappy King is used as a barbecue.

Heatlie Roaster

0000418 roaster Heatlie Roaster 12
0000452 roaster Heatlie Roaster 130000420 roaster Heatlie Roaster 15

$6,489.00

Heatlie Roaster

The Heatlie Roaster is designed for those who cater for large groups – professional caterers, sporting clubs, schools, and is also ideal for camp sites. This product is available in an enormous 80kg capacity. Heatlie Roasters are manufactured to last a lifetime from durable stainless steel. With no moveable parts to break down during an event, this is the ideal product for caterers. Additional accessories include vegetable rack, End Table and additional or replacement burners.

COOKING GUIDE

The Heatlie Roaster works similar to a fan forced oven. The burner is at the rear and the heat rises and rolls around the food. With the movement of heat rising at the back and rolling down at the front, the hottest cooking area inside the unit is the front area on the rack closest to where the roaster opens.

Do not place food directly over the burner, as your food could burn in the direct heat. The fat dripping onto the flame could also cause smoke and flare ups.

The use of double up racks enables two tiered cooking, increasing your cooking space. The temperature is hotter on the higher rack therefore the food will cook slightly quicker.

The Heatlie roaster can reach 200 degrees Celsius in 3 minutes, so there is no need to pre-heat. Cooking capacity of the 3 rack roaster is about 80kg.

Cooking Times

  • Whole pigs – 40kg 4 to 5 hours
  • Whole lambs 20kg 3.5 hours
  • Whole turkeys 7.5kg 2 to 3 hours
  • Whole Snapper 8-9kg 1 to 1.5 hours
  • Combination legs of Pork, Rumps etc. 4 to 5 hours
  • Vegetables approx. 1 hr

Allow longer if food is frozen. If food is placed in roasting dishes, rather than directly onto the roasting rack cleaning is minimised.

FAQ

Can I buy replacement burners?
Yes. These can be purchased through any retail outlet which sells Heatlie products.

Can I have the burner made in stainless steel?
All Roasters now come with a stainless steel burner. These burners may warp upwards when it is heated, as stainless steel has more movement than mild steel but this will not affect the cooking.

The Pilot is too small. Can it be adjusted?
Yes. Firstly remove burner from roaster.

  • Check that there are 3 individual flames coming out of the 3 port pilot light. One faces the electrode, one faces the burner, and the other faces the thermocouple, and should all be of equal size if not this means there is an obstruction in one of the ports.
  • The flame should be large enough to encase the tip of the thermocouple. If not, tip burner upside down, and on the base of the pilot light there is a hexagonal cap with a screwdriver slot. (ensurethe pilot light is not on for this procedure.)
  • Remove the hexagonal cap where you will find another screw driver slot, this one is brass.
  • Turn this slot anti-clockwise a couple of degrees only. Then replace the cap, turn burner back over and re-light the pilot light. This should have increased the size of the flame. If it is still not big enough, repeat this process until it is.
  • The flame must remain blue, if it turns orange it can cause soot build up on the thermocouple and will cease to function properly.

The pilot light is Yellow. What does this mean?
The pilot should be blue. The yellow flame means there is possibly an obstruction in the pilot light.

  • Firstly, remove the stainless controller cover by undoing the screws holding it on. The igniter is attached to this cover, so you will need to detach the piezolead first. (don’t forget to re-attach it later)
  • Remove controller cover and controller from the end plate of burner which is held on by two nuts and bolts.
  • Undo the two brass screws at the end of the pilot light assembly which hold on the clamping bracket.
  • The cover part of this assembly will not come apart. Rotate the pilot assembly out from behind the cover to access. The pilot light assembly should now be visible.
  • Remove the two hex headed slot screws that hold the pilot assembly together, (be careful as this is where the item mayfall apart) You can now separate the pilot light components to individually look at and check to see that there is no obstruction anywhere.
  • The middle part of the bracket is the pilot light (with a mushroom looking top on it) Take the mushroom and stalk part out, check inside the mixing chamber (mushroom stalk) for obstructions. Look for grease, or insects or something small that has made its way into this chamber. Remove any foreign objects, clean any grease away. Blow out with compressed air if possible. If you fail to find anything foreign, the pilot light will need to be replaced.

How do I care for my Heatlie Roaster?

A removable liquid collection container slides directly underneath the drain hole, allowing collection and easy disposal of fat.

The base of the oven can be lined with foil which can be easily removed after cooking and disposed of. Foil trays can also be used in the base and disposed of after use. The burner is able to be removed easily, enabling the oven to be steam cleaned.

The outside of the oven can be cleaned with any commercially available stainless steel cleaning products.
